You dont have to move everything from the ps3 to an external hard drive!!!! since laptop computers and most desktops are SATA, just buy SATA cables and connect the PS3 hard drive to your computer as a 2nd hard drive, then copy all your files to your computer. Disconnect ps3 hard drive, connect new hard drive, format new drive to FAT32 settings, move PS3 files to new hard drive, install new hard drive. Done. I did it, only took about half an hour. Booyah bitches learn your computers ya noobs
Thanks Classic Game Room for your help! I bought a external hard drive that wasn’t FAT 32. A pal of mine formatted for me. After I backed up everything, my PS3 kept saying that it needs the system update 3.15. I had to download it from the site. Once I did that, everything went smoothly! I put a 640GB WD Blue Scorpio HD in my slim PS3. I didn’t have to format to fat 32 it formatted and installed just fine. And I got 529GB /596GB/640GB when done. 409GB more than the 120.

Absolutely. You can even install a 640GB hard drive disk (largest capacity at the moment). And when 1TB drives come out, you’ll be able to do that too.
